- Murree city is a popular hill station and a summer resort, especially for the residents of Islamabad, and for the cities of the province of Punjab, Pakistan. Named after the Virgin Mary, Murree is also the administrative centre of Murree Tehsil, which is a sub-division of Rawalpindi district and includes the Murree hills. Murree was founded in 1851 by the Governor of Punjab, Sir Henry Lawrence, and was originally established for the British troops garrisoned on the Afghan frontier as a sanatorium. The permanent town of Murree was constructed at Sunnybank in 1853. The church was sanctified in May 1857, and the main road, The Mall, was built. The most significant commercial establishments, the Post Office, general merchants with European goods, tailors and a millinery, were established opposite the church. Until 1947, access to the Mall was restricted for non-Europeans. Due to construction of better road and construction of a great number of Hotels, Resorts and Guest Houses, Murree is as crowded in winters as in Summers. And people from all parts of the country visit this place to enjoy the Snowfall mainly in December and January.
- When this picture was taken i never knew that we won’t be able to come to this valley again. It was so peaceful valley and his people always welcome tourists with open hands.Swat with its rushing rivers, green mountains, dense forests and snow clad peaks is always famous for its beauty and attract tourists from all over the world. But these days conditions are not good there and the beautiful valley of Swat is cut from the country almost because of poor law and order conditions. Tourists and nature lovers are missing this valley this summer and waiting for the time when it will become peaceful again.

- It’s not very often that a monarch willingly relinquishes his own castle, but Ghazanfar Ali Khan II, a descendant of the ruling Mirs (or Kings) of Hunza in Pakistan’s mountainous north, believed that his ancestral home, the Baltit Fort, would be better off in the hands of someone who knew how to take care of it. Seven hundred years’ worth of earthquakes, avalanches and neglect had turned it into a rubble-strewn heap, prompting the Mir to turn it over to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in 1989. The charitable foundation embarked on a restoration, which took six years and more than $3 million—and the results are stunning. Taken apart stone by stone and rebuilt using both modern and traditional methods, the fort has risen from its ruins. New foundations stabilize the ancient walls, and polymer mesh strengthens the façades that so magnificently overlook the Hunza Valley. In the 1920s, a British traveler described Baltit as “the most amazing fortress ever built.” Today, it would be fitting to describe it as the most amazing fort ever rebuilt.
- The best-preserved and most accessible of Cholistan’s historic remains is the dramatic fort at Derawar, 45 km south of Dera Nawab. The vast square structure built in 1733 as the headquarters of Sadiq Muhammad Khan I, the first nawab of Bahawalpur. Visible for many kilometres, the fort has 40 enormous bastions, most of them intact, and it stands more than 30m high. Most of the interior is in need of renovation and there isn’t actually that much to see.

- The Noor Mahal is a beautiful palace built in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. It was built in 1872 like an Italian chateau on neoclassical lines, strangely at a time when modernism had set in. There are various stories regarding its construction. According to one belief, Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan IV had the palace made for his wife. However, she was there for one night, only as she happened to see the adjoining graveyard from her balcony, and refused to spend another night there and so it remained unused during his reign.

The Killer Mountain by NotMicroButSoft (Ceasing My FREEDOM: 3 days left).
NANGA PARBAT, whose name means Naked Mountain, is the ninth highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 26,658 ft, or 8,125 m above sea level. It is the westernmost mountain (also known as the Killer Mountain) of the Himalayas. Its vast snowy face is a powerful spectacle when seen from the arid Indus Valley, approaching the mountain from the west. Here the mountain towers in isolation over 22,000 feet from the valley floor.
The Karakoram Highway approaches the base of the mountain from the north, but is not so easy to climb. Unstable glaciers and frequent storms and avalanches have proved hazardous, most notably to the German party who first attempted the peak. Herman Buhl successfully reached the summit, but this was only after having lost eleven climbers and fifteen porters during the ascent. Many other climbers have subsequently been killed on this mountain.
The whole story is captured in 1986 independent Canadian film, ‘The Climb’. Almost documentary in style, Bruce Greenwood is top billed as Herman Buhl, a brilliant young Austrian climber who clashes with the leader of his expedition during the assault of Nanga Parbat, the world’s fifth highest peak and the most dangerous mountain in the Himalayas. The only member of the group to make it to the top, his climb becomes a soul-searching experience explored in letters back to his wife. Near death during the descent, he is joined by the ghost of another climber lost on the same peak 30 years earlier. Told through Buhl’s diary with soft voice-overs in a German accent by Greenwood, it’s a surprisingly serious film for so young an actor. Shown with distinction at the Seattle Film Festival, The Climb also won the Kodak International Award of Excellence in 1988.
- Pakistan is home to 108 peaks above 7,000 metres and probably as many peaks above 6,000 m. There is no count of the peaks above 5,000 and 4,000 m. Out of top 100, 44 are in Pakistan.
- Five of the 14 highest independent peaks in the world (the eight-thousanders) are in Pakistan (four of which lie in the surroundings of Concordia; the confluence of Baltoro Glacier and Godwin Austen Glacier).
- Most of the highest peaks in Pakistan lie in Karakoram range (which lies almost entirely in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, and is considered to be a part of the greater Himalayan range) but some peaks above 7,000 m are included in the Himalayan and Hindu Kush ranges.
- This might happened with you too if you are trekking on the largest non-polar glacial world “The Karakorams”.The karakoram is one of the greatest mountain range on earth with almost entirely in Northern Pakistan starting from west and runs towards east the karakoram covers an area of 300 miles in between. The Sim gang Glacier also known as “Snow Lake” forms the divide between the Hipar,Biafo and Panmah glaciers. This is the longest glacial trek in the world outside polar regions with the incredible length of 126 km.The highest mountain in the picture is baintha Braak 7285 m.
